Each year, photographers around the world gather on the same day to explore, photograph, share photos with one another, make new friend, and be a part of a great cause. This year, Scott Kelby announces the official date of his highly anticipated 9th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk™, the world’s largest photo walk! The event is happening Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 in thousands of cities all over the world.

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk, dubbed the world’s largest global and social photography event, has grown immensely in size and popularity since the inaugural walk in 2007. Last year (2015), more than 25,000 photographers of all walks of life and skill level converged to explore their corners of the world through photography and social community.

The concept of a Photo Walk is simple. Photo Walks are created by Walk Leaders in cities all over the world. Walkers meet up at a pre-designated location – downtown areas, zoos, business parks, you name it! – to spend a few hours socializing, capturing images and sharing with like-minded people. At the end of the photo walk, most groups convene at local restaurants or taverns to share their images and experiences over food.

This year, Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao, Philippines will be joining the worldwide photo walk once again led by Clement Dampal II, a Diversified Lensman based in the city who served as the Official Photo Walk Leader last 2015. In Cagayan de Oro Northern Mindanao Leg, the Photo Walk aims to promote the city itself from heritage to tourism, infrastructure to growth, and its people on a daily activity and provides opportunities to the participants to actively engage in programs and activities promoting the quality of life. It will start at Plaza delos Heroes, Divisoria around 7 in the morning on the said date.

Some of the areas/structures to be covered for CDO NorthMin Leg includes the City Museum (Water Tower), Casa Real (City Hall), Lourdes College, Plaza Divisoria, Kalye del Mar (Don Apolinar Velez Street), JR Borja Street, Cogon Market, Carmen Market, Bulua Westbound Terminal, Opol Beach.

Photographers joining the photowalk are requested to bring the following:

  • Digital Single Lens Reflex/Translucent cameras, and/or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens cameras
  • Point-and-Shoot camera owners are also welcome to join
  • A good tripod
  • Extra shirt
  • Bottled water
  • Pocket money

In addition to the event, photo walkers will be able to upload their favorite picture to our popular Photo Walk contest for a chance to win a 1-year membership to www.kelbyone.com, a DSLR, gift cards, apps, camera bags and more. We will also name a Grand Prize winner and 10 finalists to be selected by Scott Kelby himself!

The event is FREE, but pre-registration is required and is limited to 50 participants only. Register at www.worldwidephotowalk.com, locate your city and complete the free sign up form.

Additionally, participants can connect socially before, during and after the event using the hashtag #WWPW2016 hash tag on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Coach to the stars like Piolo Pascual and the Zobel de Ayalas and marathon master Coach Rio joined the summit in support to the Human Race Against Rotavirus campaign. He represent the human race against the dreaded disease.

Rotavirus-related gastroenteritis is claiming at least 13 lives of innocent Children everyday, ages 5 years old and below.

With the reduction of child mortality as part of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations, saving children from rotavirus-related deaths counts among the most important missions countries must take –especially as this disease is highly preventable through vaccination/ The World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) recommends that rotavirus vaccines be included in all national immunization programs, particularly in countries where diarrhea-related deaths account for more than 10% deaths in children younger than 5 years.

Coach Rio talking about his support on the Human Race Against Rotavirus

“By creating venues and channels to discuss how we can effectively defeat the rotavirus, the Philippines will drastically reduce overall child mortality in the Philippines and win the race against this fatal yet highly preventable disease,” notes Dr. Fil Gacheco a ROTAPHIL Representative and Associate Professor at MCU College of Medicine.
