Cagayan de Oro City to join the 9thAnnual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk

Each year, photographers around the world gather on the same day to explore, photograph, share photos with one another, make new friend, and be a part of a great cause. This year, Scott Kelby announces the official date of his highly anticipated 9th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk™, the world’s largest photo walk! The event is happening Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 in thousands of cities all over the world.

The Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk, dubbed the world’s largest global and social photography event, has grown immensely in size and popularity since the inaugural walk in 2007. Last year (2015), more than 25,000 photographers of all walks of life and skill level converged to explore their corners of the world through photography and social community.

The concept of a Photo Walk is simple. Photo Walks are created by Walk Leaders in cities all over the world. Walkers meet up at a pre-designated location – downtown areas, zoos, business parks, you name it! – to spend a few hours socializing, capturing images and sharing with like-minded people. At the end of the photo walk, most groups convene at local restaurants or taverns to share their images and experiences over food.

This year, Cagayan de Oro City, Northern Mindanao, Philippines will be joining the worldwide photo walk once again led by Clement Dampal II, a Diversified Lensman based in the city who served as the Official Photo Walk Leader last 2015. In Cagayan de Oro Northern Mindanao Leg, the Photo Walk aims to promote the city itself from heritage to tourism, infrastructure to growth, and its people on a daily activity and provides opportunities to the participants to actively engage in programs and activities promoting the quality of life. It will start at Plaza delos Heroes, Divisoria around 7 in the morning on the said date.

Some of the areas/structures to be covered for CDO NorthMin Leg includes the City Museum (Water Tower), Casa Real (City Hall), Lourdes College, Plaza Divisoria, Kalye del Mar (Don Apolinar Velez Street), JR Borja Street, Cogon Market, Carmen Market, Bulua Westbound Terminal, Opol Beach.

Photographers joining the photowalk are requested to bring the following:

  • Digital Single Lens Reflex/Translucent cameras, and/or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens cameras
  • Point-and-Shoot camera owners are also welcome to join
  • A good tripod
  • Extra shirt
  • Bottled water
  • Pocket money

In addition to the event, photo walkers will be able to upload their favorite picture to our popular Photo Walk contest for a chance to win a 1-year membership to www.kelbyone.com, a DSLR, gift cards, apps, camera bags and more. We will also name a Grand Prize winner and 10 finalists to be selected by Scott Kelby himself!

The event is FREE, but pre-registration is required and is limited to 50 participants only. Register at www.worldwidephotowalk.com, locate your city and complete the free sign up form.

Additionally, participants can connect socially before, during and after the event using the hashtag #WWPW2016 hash tag on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

First Flash Mob in CDO

Flash mob-a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, artistic expression.

How Does It Work?
Flash Mobs are initiated online. The organizers set up a website, mailing list, and/or a viral message that provides all necessary instructions for potential participants. This of course includes the date, time, and meeting point in the real world, as well as the action to perform, for example a video of the dance moves.

On October 28, 2011, Cagayan de Oro had its first ever flash mob through the efforts of a group called CDO Tycoons. The participants gathered at SM City where they surprised the shoppers and mall goers with the sudden performance at the Atrium.

This won’t be the last as I heard another Flash Mob happening soon! This time it’s going to be a Pre-Christmas Flash Mob. Chadacdo is surely looking forward to it.
