Neophytes in 15th Congress Donates Houses for Sendong Survivors in CDO

May 5, 2012 – The group of the young neophytes of the 15th Congress came up with a very noble project of their own to help the survivors of the Typhoon Sendong in Cagayan de Oro. The Congressmen headed by Rep. JV Ejercito flew all the way to Cagayan de Oro City to personally turn-over the 7 houses they donated through Gawad Kalinga and signed the MOA after.

This donation is not funded by the government nor it came from their Pork Barrels. The money used for each house came from their own pocket as a way of helping together (though they each have their efforts prior to this). The houses which are located at the Gawad Kalinga Village in Canitoan (before the tent city) as what we gathered cost P110,000 each. At the press conference the group stressed out that though they are congressmen they are doing this as group of friends who would like to make a difference through helping in their own little way. They are hoping that with their effort they will be able to influence others to do something for the victims of Sendong.

It is great to know that aside from the Local Government helping the Sendong Survivors, there are still people like these young legislators who are generous to give back to those who are in need. Cagayan de Oro City truly appreciates efforts such as this.
