Though it’s a bit far from Cagayan de Oro City, we are still excited of the new Airport as it is something Northern Mindanao can be proud of. Even President Aquino is excited for the opening of the P7.9 billion airport was approved by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Board on September 18, 2007. Though Laguindingan International Airport is expected to fully operate on 2014, it will open on April 30, 2013 according to President Aquino during his visit last February 26, 2013.
“Malawak ang potential sa kaunlaran ng Misamis Oriental lalo na po sa turismo, kaya naman excited na po tayo sa pagbubukas ng bago ninyong Laguindingan Airport sa April 30, 2013. Ito po ang maghahatid sa mga turista na nais bumisita sa isla ng Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro, at Iligan (There is a big potential for progress in Misamis Oriental, especially in tourism, that is why we are excited for the opening of your new Laguindingan Airport on April 30, 2013. This will ferry tourists who want to visit the island of Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro, and Iligan),” – President Aquino
The project was funded through a P5.1-billion loan provided by the Korean Import Export Bank on December 28, 2007, and a government counterpart of P2.9 billion.
The President also stated that with the new airport, more than 460,000 tourist arrivals in the city, as tabulated in 2011, can be expected, and can reach up to 2.5 million foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in 2016. Now that’s a good news! definitely something to look forward to!
