Kagay-an Festival 2011 : Folkloric Street Dance Competition
One of the usual highlights of every Kagay-an Festival is the Folkloric Street Dance Competition which was done last August 26, 2011. The event was well participated this time compared to last year. This is also the first time that the competition was opened to other places outside Cagayan de Oro. Zamboanga Sibugay, Gingoog City and Initao Misamis Oriental took part of the said competition to make it more exciting and colorful.
The participants were as follows: Gingoog City, Lapasan National High School, Province of Zamboanga Sibugay, Tribu Bugohanon, St. Peters College Balingasag, Misamis Oriental Institute of Science and Technology (MOIST) Balingasag, Initao Tribu Dumuduong and Tribu Hyundai Gusa

Every group consisted of 50-80 members. Popular theme of the performances were Giving thanks and honoring the “Birhen sa Kota” and “Coconut Legend”. Among the 8 contenders, delegates from Zamboanga Sibugay emerged as the Grand Winner bringing back home 250,000 and a trophy. 2nd Prize went to Barangay Hyundai Gusa with 200,000 plus trophy. Balingasag’s St. Peters College got the 3rd place bringing home 150,000 and a trophy and another 5,000 as Best in Music awarded by LBC. The rest of the participants got 10,000 as a consolation prize. Personally I must say, they were all excellent and presented a great show for the Kagay-anons to enjoy.
