Nearly three years ago (December 16, 2011), Cagayan de Oro was put in a state of emergency due to the devastation typhoon Sendong (international name: Washi) brought to the city. Thousands of families lost their homes and loved ones. Now 3 years after, a lot of survivors (families) now live in relocation areas trying to start over again.
Xavier Ecoville is among those resettlement communities where survivors are working hard to have their lives back by making a living through various livelihood projects supported by Ateneo de Cagayan University, donors and valued partners. This self-sustaining designed community is located in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.
Recently, PagBAG-o Project (Pagbag-o is a Visayan word that means Change) is launched aiming to give everyone a chance to change the lives of the Sendong survivors in Xavier Ecoville. PagBAG-o Project is a livelihood initiative of the Xavier Ecoville Multipurpose Cooperative’s sewing enterprise. It is a creative collaboration between the housewives who produce the bags and the Xavier University students and alumni who make the designs. It features customizable prints allowing groups and individuals to express their thoughts through the PagBAG-o Project’s sturdy and stylish products.
Buy these bags to support the Typhoon Sendong Survivors in rebuilding their lives. You can buy their bags for as low as P125 and they also accept bulk orders. If you are looking for Christmas giveaways/gifts, a personalized bag by them is a great idea! You may visit them at H-3B Miranda Building, Chaves St. Cagayan de Oro City.
