White Water Rafting – It’s a Go for CDO

It has been mentioned earlier on this blog that Cagayan de Oro City’s tourism dwindled after Typhoon Sendong destroyed a lot of places in Cagayan de Oro including some of the major tourist destinations for adventure. It is unfortunate that many of the supposed tourists thought that CDO is no longer a good place to visit since the devastation. Well, you guys have to see all these photos and video. The photos below were taken a week ago during our visit in one of the major destinations when you visit Cagayan de Oro City, the White Water Rafting (we started at Mambuaya River).

Undeniably Cagayan de Oro spells White Water Rafting! And yes dear visitors it is still as good as it was. There were some minor changes though, like the restaurant and the swimming pool the rafters used to stop over to freshen up and eat is no longer there as it has been swept away by the ravaging flood water. Some rapids were gone but there were newly formed and some even became more exciting!

The video below is courtesy of GMA’s regional station feature in their local program “Isyu Karon”. With the goal to show everyone how fun it still is even after the typhoon recharging CDO’s tourism. See for yourself!

Photo below is the 11th rapid (beginners course). Quite a challenge as it is a surprise rapid! Used to be level 2 but after the typhoon it’s now level 5. Trust me it’s insanely fun! We did this 2 consecutive days making sure we are not missing anything. And may I add, NO leptospirosis! so it’s definitely 100% safe health wise.

Of course The fun didn’t stop there! We then of course headed to Dahilayan for another adventure! It’s a Go for CDO!

It’s a Go For CDO – 360 Degrees Kicking Swing

Another latest activity Dahilayan Adventure Park is the 360 degrees Kicking Swing. Ones again your fear of heights will be tested (that is if up there is not your thing). It’s a challenging ride since it is not automated. You will have to carry your weight and swing 360 degrees to the air with your feet and hands tied to the swing to ensure your safety. After your 120ft drop, go ahead and continue the thrill with the 360 kicking swing. Only when you visit Cagayan de Oro and Dahilayan Adventure Park! Check out the video below.

Dahilayan Adventure Park’s Drop Zone

After all the volunteering and relief operations for our brothers and sisters who survived typhoon Sendong (Washi), chadacdo together with some blogger friends went to Dahilayan Adventure Park. It’s been quite a while since my last visit so the new adventures and beautiful attractions were a pleasant surprise. Thanks to Sir Benjie Paras for showing us around. And of course Sir Elpie Paras for the warm welcome AND! for introducing us the latest additional of the park’s thrilling and extreme adventures.

Dahilayan takes pride of the newly built Drop Zone. It’s a 120ft high drop! If you are looking for an extreme adventure, adrenaline rush, or perhaps just wants to prove that letting go is the hardest part, this ride is perfect for you. The drop of your life as I call it. What makes it more thrilling is that you will be the one to pull that “trigger” for you to drop! otherwise you’ll reside 120ft up. It’s not officially open to the public yet but Sir Elpie encouraged us for a demo. The ride will cost you 500.00 only. First brave soul was Goma! Check out his video.

Pardon the background, we were as tensed as the one who volunteered to try the drop zone first. He was the official first rider of the 120ft Drop Zone so he deserves a pat on the back! Go Goma!

Second in line is Ding. Taking off is the hardest part!

And! a very brave girl tried the scary ride! She actually cried after the ride (tears of joy I assume).

Truly something worth visiting! It’s a Go for CDO that we can guarantee as Kagay-anons! The beautiful places we take pride are very much in good shape. Visit Cagayan de Oro and experience the thrill of pulling the “trigger” for a deadly but fun drop only in Dahilayan Adventure Park!

Cagayan de Oro – Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse as seen in Cagayan de Oro City (thanks to my friend Don for this great shot) on December 10, 2011. It was the second of two total lunar eclipses in 2011, the first having occurred on June 15. This recent eclipse was visible from all of Asia and Australia, seen as rising over Europe and setting over Northwest North America.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun’s rays from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.
